Approximately 2014-2015. While an exact official date is not widely publicized, analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway and airfield facilities were still intact in early 2014 but were being demolished by 2015 to make way for new construction.
Land redevelopment for a major public infrastructure project. The site was expropriated and cleared for the construction of the Konya City Hospital (Konya Şehir Hastanesi), a large state-of-the-art medical complex. The airport's location within a developing urban area made the land highly valuable for this purpose, leading to its permanent closure.
The site is now fully occupied by the Konya City Hospital, which officially opened in 2020. The original runway, taxiways, and any associated hangars or buildings have been completely demolished. The area has been transformed into a massive healthcare campus with multiple hospital blocks, extensive parking lots, and access roads. There are no remaining traces of the former airport.
The airport's primary historical significance was educational. It served as the main training airfield for the Selçuk University School of Civil Aviation (Selçuk Üniversitesi Sivil Havacılık Yüksekokulu). Operations consisted almost exclusively of general aviation and flight training activities. Students used the airfield for practical flight lessons, typically in single-engine training aircraft such as the Cessna 172. It was a crucial piece of infrastructure for the university's aviation program for many years but did not handle any scheduled commercial or significant military traffic.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and irreversibly repurposed for the Konya City Hospital, a critical and permanent piece of civic infrastructure. Any future aviation needs for the region are served by the main Konya Airport (KYA / LKTN).
