Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately between 2011 and 2013. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was intact through 2010, but by 2012-2013, large-scale earthworks for a new real estate development had begun, cutting across and ultimately obliterating the runway. By 2015, the site was completely transformed.

Reason for Closure

Economic reasons related to urban development and land value. As the Pattaya region expanded, the land occupied by the airpark became extremely valuable for high-end residential and resort development. The owners sold the land, leading to its closure and subsequent redevelopment.

Current Status

The site has been completely redeveloped and is no longer an airport. The land is now occupied by the Horseshoe Point Resort, a large equestrian center, and multiple luxury housing estates (such as The Vineyard and La Colline) built around a large, man-made lake. All infrastructure related to the airport, including the runway, taxiways, and hangars, has been removed and replaced by roads, villas, and resort facilities.

Historical Significance

Pattaya Airpark was a key private airfield for the general aviation (GA) community in and around the major tourist hub of Pattaya. It primarily handled private light aircraft, ultralights, and served local flying clubs. Its designation as an 'airpark' suggests it was intended as a fly-in community where residents could have homes with adjacent hangars. It offered a convenient and accessible option for recreational pilots, tourists, and aviation enthusiasts, distinct from the larger, commercially and militarily focused U-Tapao International Airport (UTP) located further south.

Reopening Prospects

Zero. The land has been permanently and irrevocably converted to a high-density residential and commercial resort area. There is no physical space remaining for aviation operations, and the land use has been fundamentally changed. There are no known plans or prospects for reopening an airport at this location.
