Approximately 2014-2016. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the airport was intact until around 2014, with significant construction and redevelopment of the runway area visible by 2016.
Industrial Redevelopment. The airport, also known as Sahapat Airfield, was located on land owned by the Saha Group. The land was repurposed for the expansion of the adjacent Saha Group Industrial Park Sriracha. The value of the land for building warehouses and factories exceeded its value as a private airfield, leading to its closure and redevelopment.
The airport is permanently closed and no longer exists. The entire site, including the former runway, taxiways, and hangar areas, has been completely redeveloped. It is now an integrated part of the Saha Group Industrial Park Sriracha, occupied by large-scale warehouses, distribution centers, and factory buildings. Roads for the industrial park now cut across the former runway's path.
Sri Racha Airport was a private airfield, primarily known as Sahapat Airfield, owned and operated by the Saha Group, a major Thai conglomerate. Its main purpose was to serve the logistical and transportation needs of the Saha Group Industrial Park and other businesses in the Si Racha and Laem Chabang area. The airport handled general aviation and corporate aircraft, facilitating executive travel and urgent personnel transport. It played a significant role in connecting this key industrial hub with Bangkok and other regions, particularly before the major expansion of nearby U-Tapao Airport and the development of modern motorway networks.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been fully and permanently repurposed with industrial infrastructure, making a return to aviation use impossible. The region's current and future aviation needs are being served by the large-scale expansion and development of U-Tapao International Airport (UTP), which is a key component of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) initiative.
