Approximately 2010-2011. The airport was closed to facilitate the construction of a solar power plant. The project for the power plant was approved in 2010, and it is visible on satellite imagery from 2012, while the airfield was still intact in 2006.
Economic and land-use conversion. The primary reason for the closure was the sale and redevelopment of the land for the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic power plant ('Fotovoltaická elektráreň Chtelnica'). The land was deemed more valuable for renewable energy generation than for its continued use as a small general aviation airfield.
The airport is permanently closed and non-operational. A significant portion of the former airfield property is now occupied by the Chtelnica Photovoltaic Power Plant. The former grass runway is still faintly visible on satellite imagery but is overgrown, bisected by a service road for the solar farm, and is completely unfit for any aviation activities. The site has been fully repurposed for industrial energy production.
Chtelnica Airfield was a local general aviation airport (unofficial ICAO code: LZCH) that served the sport and recreational flying community in the Trnava region. It was operated by the local 'Aeroklub Chtelnica'. The facility consisted of an 800 x 50 meter grass runway and was primarily used for gliding and flights with light single-engine and ultralight aircraft. It held no major military or commercial significance but was an important hub for local aviation enthusiasts.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The presence of the large, permanent solar power plant infrastructure on the site makes a return to aviation operations practically impossible and economically unfeasible. The land has been permanently redeveloped.
