Grönhögen Airport

Economic and business reasons. The airfield was privately owned and operated by the adjacent Grönhögen Golf Links. The decision to close was made by the resort's management, likely due to a combination of factors such as the high cost of maintenance and insurance, liability concerns, and a strategic decision to repurpose the land for golf-related activities.

The site of the former airport is now fully integrated into the Grönhögen Golf Links. The land that once served as the runway is now maintained as open green space, potentially used as a driving range or practice area for the golf course. All aviation-specific markings, windsocks, and infrastructure have been removed, and the area is no longer recognizable or usable as an airfield.

Grönhögen Airport was a private general aviation airstrip with a 650-meter grass runway. Its primary historical significance was as a unique amenity for the Grönhögen Golf Links, one of Sweden's premier seaside golf courses. The airport's main function was to cater to patrons and private pilots who could fly their small aircraft directly to the resort on the southern tip of Öland island. Operations were limited to small, private aircraft (VFR - Visual Flight Rules) and it primarily supported tourism and recreation for the golf course.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Grönhögen Airport. The land has been successfully repurposed by the golf resort, and the airfield has been permanently closed for over a decade. A return to aviation use is considered highly unlikely.
