Circa 2004
The airport was closed for economic and urban development reasons. The landowner, Trelleborg Municipality, terminated the lease with the operating flying club to redevelop the strategically located land for industrial and commercial purposes. The area's proximity to the Port of Trelleborg and the E6 motorway made it highly valuable for logistics and business development, outweighing its value as a small airfield.
The site of the former airport has been completely and permanently redeveloped. The runway and all aviation facilities have been removed. The area is now a major business and logistics park, often referred to as Västra Företagsområdet or a similar name. It is occupied by numerous warehouses, distribution centers, and transport companies, including major logistics players like PostNord and DHL, leveraging its strategic location near the port and major highways. The original airfield is unrecognizable.
Trelleborg Airport was a small, local airfield primarily used for general aviation. It was not a commercial airport and had no scheduled passenger traffic. Its main historical significance was being the home base for the Söderslätts Flygklubb (Söderslätt's Flying Club). Operations consisted of flight training (for both powered aircraft and gliders), recreational flying for club members, and private light aircraft movements. It served as an important hub for the local aviation community in the Söderslätt region of Scania (Skåne). The airport featured a single grass runway.
None. The prospect of reopening the airport is effectively zero. The land has been fully redeveloped with significant and permanent industrial infrastructure. Re-establishing an airport at this location would require the acquisition and demolition of numerous modern commercial properties, making it physically and economically infeasible. The former operator, Söderslätts Flygklubb, successfully relocated its operations to Eslöv Airport (ESME).
