🇺🇸 Bermuda High Gliderport

Bermuda High Gliderport (SC79) in Lancaster, South Carolina, is a privately-owned gliderport and a commercial flight training facility dedicated to the sport of soaring.

• Location: The gliderport is situated approximately 18 miles southeast of Lancaster, South Carolina, within the small community of Flat Creek. Its coordinates are 34.6113 N latitude and -80.4498 W longitude.
• Runway Information: It features a single turf runway, designated 3/21, which measures 4000 x 200 feet (1219 x 61 meters).
• Known Uses: Bermuda High Gliderport is primarily used for gliding activities, offering introductory rides, flight instruction for all levels, and supporting cross-country soaring. Operations are limited to private use under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions, and prior permission is required for landing. The facility also functions as a private club for local members.
• Historical Significance: Established as Bermuda High Soaring in Chester, SC, in 1963, the operation was purchased by Jayne and Frank Reid in 1986. Due to airspace restrictions from the expanding Charlotte Douglas Airport, the gliderport relocated to its current Lancaster County site in 1991, with operations commencing in May 1992.
