Jazan King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Airport

However, there has been no permanent closure. The primary reason for any future closure would be its replacement by a new airport currently under construction.

The site is the active Jazan Regional Airport, serving both civil and military purposes. It is a busy domestic airport operated by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia. Major airlines such as Saudia, Flynas, and Flyadeal operate regular flights. The airport features a single runway (15/33) and a passenger terminal that serves millions of passengers annually. It continues to be a key military installation.

The airport at this location, Jazan Regional Airport (OEJZ/GIZ), has long been the primary aviation hub for the Jizan Province in southwestern Saudi Arabia. It has played a crucial role in the region's economic development by connecting it to major hubs like Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. Historically, it has handled a mix of scheduled domestic passenger services, cargo flights, and general aviation. Due to its proximity to the border with Yemen, it has also served as a vital forward operating base for the Royal Saudi Air Force and coalition forces, particularly since 2015.

Not applicable as the airport is currently open. However, there are advanced plans to replace it. A new international airport, the King Abdullah International Airport (JIZ), is under construction approximately 30 kilometers north of the current location. This new facility is designed with a much larger capacity (two runways, a larger terminal) and is situated further from the city center and the sensitive border area. Once the new airport becomes operational, the current Jazan Airport (OEJZ/GIZ) is expected to be permanently closed and decommissioned.
