Approximately 1994-1995
Military base closure following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The airfield, more commonly known as Postovaya or Datta Airfield, was home to the 308th Fighter Aviation Regiment. This regiment was disbanded as part of the large-scale military downsizing and budget cuts that occurred in the Russian Armed Forces during the 1990s. With the resident unit gone, the base was deemed surplus to requirements and abandoned.
The airfield is completely abandoned and in a state of severe decay. Satellite imagery confirms that the runway, taxiways, and aircraft revetments are still intact but are heavily weathered, cracked, and being reclaimed by vegetation. The technical and administrative buildings of the former base and its associated garrison are in ruins. The site is not used for any purpose and is inaccessible to the public without difficulty.
The airfield was a significant Soviet Air Defence Forces (PVO) base during the Cold War. Its strategic location on the coast of the Strait of Tartary was critical for the air defense of the Soviet Far East, including the major naval base at Sovetsaya Gavan. It primarily hosted the 308th Fighter Aviation Regiment (308 IAP), which was part of the 11th Independent Air Defence Army. The regiment was equipped with Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23MLD 'Flogger-K' interceptor aircraft, tasked with protecting Soviet airspace from potential intruders approaching from the Sea of Japan. The base featured a concrete runway, numerous hardened aircraft shelters (revetments), and a nearby military garrison.
There are no known official plans or credible prospects for reopening the airfield. The infrastructure has deteriorated beyond simple repair and would require a complete, and extremely costly, reconstruction. Given its remote location and the changes in military strategy since the Cold War, its reactivation is considered highly unlikely.
