Early 1990s
Economic reasons following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The airfield's primary purpose was to support the region's state-run collective farms (kolkhozes) with agricultural aviation services. With the dissolution of the USSR and the subsequent economic turmoil, the centralized state funding for local aviation and the collective farm system collapsed, eliminating the demand and financial support for the airfield's operations.
The airfield is completely abandoned and defunct. The site is no longer used for any aviation activities. Satellite imagery shows a clearly defined but unpaved (grass/dirt) runway that is now completely overgrown and unusable. The former taxiways and aprons are similarly degraded. The few buildings on the site appear to be in a state of ruin or have been repurposed for local agricultural storage. The land has largely reverted to being part of the surrounding fields, with the faint outline of the runway being the only remaining evidence of its past use.
Maslovskiy Airfield was a typical local civil aviation facility of the Soviet era, crucial for the agricultural economy of the Zaraysky district. Its main function was agricultural aviation ('сельхозавиация'). A fleet of Antonov An-2 biplanes operated from the airfield, performing tasks such as crop dusting (pesticide and herbicide application), aerial seeding, and spreading fertilizer over the vast collective farmlands. It was an essential component of the region's infrastructure, supporting high-yield agriculture. The airfield may have also occasionally handled small passenger or mail flights to other local destinations within the Moscow Oblast.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Maslovskiy Airfield. The infrastructure is severely degraded and would require a complete reconstruction. The original economic justification for the airfield no longer exists, as modern agricultural practices have changed and the region is well-served by road transportation. It is considered permanently closed.
