Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately early to mid-1990s

Reason for Closure

Primarily economic reasons following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The airfield was an agricultural aviation base (known as 'АХР' - авиационно-химические работы), serving state-run collective farms. With the collapse of the Soviet economic system and the decline of centralized agricultural funding, the demand and financial support for such operations ceased, leading to the abandonment of this and many similar small airfields across Russia.

Current Status

The airfield is abandoned and defunct. Satellite imagery shows a clearly visible but unmaintained and overgrown unpaved runway. Any associated infrastructure, such as small hangars or administrative buildings, appears to be in a state of decay or has been removed. The site has effectively reverted to being an open field and is not used for any formal purpose.

Historical Significance

The airfield's significance was local and utilitarian. It was a typical Soviet-era agricultural airfield, part of a vast network supporting the region's collective farms ('kolkhozes'). Its primary operation involved hosting aircraft, almost certainly the Antonov An-2 biplane, for crop dusting, fertilization, and pest control. It played a crucial role in the mechanized agricultural processes of the Leningrad Oblast during the Soviet period but had no major military or passenger transport significance.

Reopening Prospects

There are no known official plans or credible prospects for reopening the airfield. The original infrastructure is completely degraded, and the economic model for agricultural aviation that it once supported no longer exists in the same form. It is considered permanently closed.
