Approximately 2007-2008. The airfield was still operational and visible in satellite imagery in the mid-2000s. However, large-scale construction for the 'Mega Adygea' shopping center began nearby around 2006-2007, and residential development directly on the airfield's land commenced around 2008. Operations ceased as the land was progressively redeveloped, with the airfield being completely dismantled by the early 2010s.
Urban expansion and real estate development. Yablonovskiy is a rapidly growing suburb of the major city of Krasnodar, located just across the Kuban River. The land occupied by the airstrip became extremely valuable for commercial and residential construction. The development of the massive 'Mega Adygea' shopping center adjacent to the site was a major catalyst, followed by the construction of dense residential microdistricts that completely replaced the airfield.
The site of the former airstrip has been completely and irreversibly redeveloped. The land is now occupied by dense residential housing complexes, including the 'Molodezhnyy' and 'Solnechnyy' microdistricts, which consist of numerous multi-story apartment buildings. The area also includes associated urban infrastructure such as roads (e.g., Turgeneva Street, Solnechnaya Street), schools, parks, and retail shops. The distinctive layout of the runway and taxiways is entirely gone, replaced by a modern suburban landscape.
Yablonovskiy Airstrip was a significant local aviation center, primarily serving as a base for agricultural aviation (Авиационно-химические работы, AKhR) for the Krasnodar United Air Squadron. Its fleet, consisting mainly of Antonov An-2 biplanes, was crucial for crop dusting and spraying in the fertile Kuban agricultural region. Additionally, the airfield was an important training ground for the DOSAAF (Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Air Force and Navy), hosting activities such as initial flight training, glider operations, and parachute jumping for both sport and pre-military preparation. It was a hub for local general and sport aviation rather than a commercial passenger or major military airport.
None. The prospect of reopening the airstrip is zero. The land is fully occupied by dense urban development, making it physically impossible to re-establish any form of aviation facility at this location. There are no plans or discussions for its revival.
