Millerovo Airport

The facility is an active military air base, not a decommissioned civilian airport. The general airspace in southern Russia, including the area around Millerovo, was closed to all civilian aircraft by Russian aviation authorities for security reasons following the start of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The ICAO code RU-0283 is a domestic identifier and does not signify a public international airport.

Millerovo is an active and crucial front-line air base for the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS). It has been heavily involved in military operations since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, serving as a launch point for fighter jet sorties. Due to its proximity to the conflict zone, the base was reportedly targeted by a Ukrainian Tochka-U ballistic missile on February 25, 2022, in the early days of the war, allegedly causing damage to aircraft and infrastructure. It continues to operate as a high-security military installation housing advanced fighter aircraft.

Millerovo is a significant military air base with a long history dating back to the Soviet era. It has been a key installation for the Soviet Air Forces and later the Russian Aerospace Forces. Historically, it housed various fighter aviation regiments. For many years, it was home to the 19th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, which flew MiG-29 aircraft. In the 2010s, the base was upgraded and became home to the 31st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, which was re-equipped with modern Sukhoi Su-30SM multirole fighters. Its strategic location, approximately 60 km from the Ukrainian border, has always made it a forward operating base of high importance.

There are zero known plans or prospects for this facility to be converted or reopened for civilian use. Its role as a strategic military air base has been intensified by the ongoing conflict. Its future is exclusively tied to the Russian Ministry of Defense, and any potential for civilian access would only be considered after a complete demilitarization of the region, which is highly improbable in the foreseeable future.
