Aleysk Air Base (RU-0004) is not a civilian airport or a public travel destination. Information indicates that it was a military air base that has since been largely razed and converted into a military training range. The air base housed a division of the Strategic Rocket Forces until 2001, after which its facilities were dismantled and the area transferred to the Ground Forces.
Due to its nature as a former military air base and current military training range, there are no public traveler reviews or experiences available regarding civilian travel, terminal facilities, amenities, security wait times, customs, transportation connections, or parking. The facility is not open to civilian air traffic or public access in the manner of a commercial airport.

Circa 2002. The resident aviation regiment was officially disbanded in 2002, leading to the cessation of all flight operations.
Military restructuring and economic factors. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russian Armed Forces underwent extensive reforms and downsizing. The base and its resident unit were part of these large-scale cuts due to budget constraints and a re-evaluation of strategic military needs.
The air base is abandoned and in a state of advanced decay. Satellite imagery confirms that the main runway, taxiways, and numerous aircraft revetments remain, but they are cracked, overgrown, and unusable for any aviation purposes. Most of the technical buildings, hangars, and barracks are derelict, with many partially or completely collapsed. The site is not maintained and is slowly being reclaimed by nature. While the nearby military town (Aleysk-4) is still active and houses the 35th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade, the airfield itself is completely defunct.
Aleysk Air Base was a significant strategic asset for the Soviet and Russian Long-Range Aviation forces (part of the 37th Air Army). It was the home base for the 44th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment (44-й ТБАП). Historically, the regiment operated Tupolev Tu-16 'Badger' strategic bombers. In its final operational phase, the base served as a crucial training center, flying a fleet of Tupolev Tu-134UBL 'Crusty-B' aircraft. These modified airliners, featuring the nose and radar of a Tu-22M bomber, were used for advanced training of pilots and navigators destined for Russia's strategic bomber fleet, including the Tu-22M 'Backfire' and Tu-160 'Blackjack'.
There are no known official plans or credible reports suggesting any prospect of reopening the Aleysk Air Base. The infrastructure is severely deteriorated, and the cost to restore the runway, navigation systems, and support facilities to operational standards would be prohibitive. Its strategic role has been absorbed by other active air bases.
