Approximately 2018-2019. The airfield was officially closed and removed from the Serbian register of aerodromes after the land was sold for industrial development. The last aviation activities ceased as construction on the new project began.
Economic redevelopment. The land occupied by the airfield was sold to the Milanović Industries Group for the construction of the MIND Park, a major high-tech industrial and technology complex. The airport was closed to make way for this significant private investment and urban development project.
The site of the former airport has been completely transformed and is now an integral part of the MIND Park. The runway, taxiways, and hangars have been demolished and replaced by large industrial halls, office buildings, roads, and a dedicated railway line that serves the factories within the park. The land is no longer recognizable as an airfield and is exclusively used for industrial purposes.
Known as Kragujevac/Divostin Airfield (Aerodrom Kragujevac/Divostin), it was a sports and general aviation airfield. For several decades, it was the center of local aviation activities, operated by the aero club 'Aero-klub Mihajlo Petrović'. Its primary operations included pilot training for light aircraft, gliding, parachuting, and recreational flying. The airfield consisted of a grass runway and basic facilities, serving as a vital hub for aviation enthusiasts in the Šumadija region but never handled commercial passenger or regular cargo flights.
There are zero prospects for reopening the original Kragujevac Airport, as the site has been permanently and completely redeveloped. However, there are separate and ongoing discussions by the Serbian government and local authorities to build a completely new airport for the Kragujevac region at a different location. This proposed project, often referred to as the Šumadija Airport (Aerodrom Šumadija), would be located near the village of Sobovica, in close proximity to the MIND Park. The new airport is envisioned to handle cargo and potentially low-cost passenger traffic to support the region's strong industrial base, including the automotive industry. As of now, this remains a strategic plan with feasibility studies conducted, but construction has not commenced.
