Taxis are available 24/7 outside the arrival halls of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The service is regulated, with fares based on the meter plus a standard airport surcharge. Queues are organized for passengers, and most taxis accept both cash and credit cards.
Car rental counters are located in the arrival halls of both terminals. Major international and local companies like Avis, Hertz, IWS, and Chailease operate here. To rent a car, you will typically need an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to your original driver's license and passport. Booking in advance is recommended.
The airport is well-connected by public transit. The Taoyuan Airport MRT is the fastest way to Taipei, with Express trains reaching Taipei Main Station in about 35-40 minutes. An extensive network of intercity buses offers affordable connections to Taipei and other major cities across Taiwan, with some routes operating 24 hours. For travel to cities in central and southern Taiwan, a shuttle bus or the Airport MRT connects to the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (HSR) station.
Our experience was very good at this newish airport... People were helpful to point us to the right direction to T1 via the sky train. Free wifi as well as nice duty free & food outlets. Truevtestbis the clean & well maintained toilets!
Runway 05 is the runway where 9V-SPK(Singapore Airlines)crashed and burst into flames because of hitting a construction material...MAY THOSE WHO DIED THAT DAY REST IN PEACE......
You know what, Chiang Kai Shek International Airport (Taoyuan, Taiwan) SUCKS! I had a stop over flight at Chiang Kai Shek International Airport from Tokyo Japan en route to Manila last November of this year (2008). I found the people in Taiwan's so called International airport unaccommadating, unhelpful to passengers needs. I was lost at the airport then finding my way wondering where should I go next after I disembark the plane from Tokyo. As a transit passenger from Tokyo, I should take another plane en route to Manila. But there was no airport personnel guiding passengers who had just disembark the plane from Tokyo in sight. I found myself discombobulated, disappointed and disgusted. So, I ended up facing a frowning Immigration officer telling me that I got it all wrong.FUCK!
Another thing, Chiang Kai Shek International Airport personnel LOVE to FROWN specially the Taiwanese women at the airport. Their frowning only makes Taiwanese women look UGLIER! HA!
Transited many times on trips to and from the Philippines. Chian Airlines and EVA Air both hub here. A mediocre terminal in my view, someday I'd like to actually visit the island of Taipei, it would likely make up for the airport. This airport is sadly noted as the location of one of the more tragic and well-known "wrong departure runway" accidents, Singapore Air Flt 006.
