Taxis

Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals terminal, especially when flights land. These are typically shared taxis, meaning you might share the ride with other passengers heading in the same general direction. Fares are generally low, but it's always a good practice to confirm the price with the driver before starting your trip.

Rental Cars

Several local car rental companies serve the airport, and some hotels also offer rental services. It is highly recommended to book a vehicle in advance, and the company will arrange to have the car waiting for you upon arrival. Options include companies like Caroline Car Rental and Joy Car Rental. An international driving permit may be required.

Public Transportation

There is no formal public bus or scheduled shuttle system that directly serves Pohnpei International Airport. The main form of public transit on the island is the shared taxi system. Some hotels may offer pre-arranged airport shuttle services for their guests, which should be coordinated directly with the hotel prior to arrival.

Runway overrun and closure Posted by david on May 22, 2008

A cargo Boeing 727 overran the runway on Friday 16 May 2008 and ended up with its nose in a Lagoon. The airport -- the only one serving the island -- was still closed as of Thursday 22 May 2008.
