Alentejo Air Park

As the airstrip is not officially listed as closed, there is no formal reason for closure. It is a private facility, and any period of inactivity would be at the discretion of the owner for reasons such as lack of use, maintenance, or change in ownership. This does not constitute a formal, permanent closure.

The site is an active, private ultralight (ULM) airstrip officially designated PT-0017 Várzea do Escalda. It consists of a single grass/dirt runway (02/20) approximately 450 meters long. Its use is strictly private and requires Prior Permission Required (PPR) from the owner. It serves as a landing strip for recreational ultralight aircraft and is not open to the public.

The facility, officially known as 'Pista da Várzea do Escalda', has no major historical significance in a public or military context. It has always operated as a small, private airstrip (Pista ULM) intended for recreational ultralight aviation. It has never handled commercial, cargo, or military operations. Its history is tied to the private aviation activities of the owners of the 'Herdade da Várzea do Escalda' estate on which it is located, near Vila Nova de Milfontes.

The concept of 'reopening' does not apply as the airstrip is not officially decommissioned. Its availability is entirely dependent on the private owner's discretion. There are no known public plans or prospects to change its status, upgrade it for public use, or expand its operations.
