Approximately 2017-2018. The airfield ceased operations to allow for the construction of an industrial park, with major development starting around 2018-2019.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The site was strategically located near Poland's A4 motorway and the German border, making it highly valuable for logistics. The land was sold and redeveloped into a large industrial and warehouse complex, a more profitable venture than a small private airfield.
The site has been completely transformed and is now the location of the 'Panattoni Park Zgorzelec,' a large-scale logistics and industrial center. All traces of the former grass runway and any associated aviation facilities have been entirely replaced by large warehouses, truck depots, and infrastructure for the industrial park.
Zgorzelec-Żarska Wieś was a small, private, unregistered grass airstrip (in Polish: lądowisko). The ICAO code PL-0067 was an unofficial designator used within the Polish aviation community. Its primary role was serving the local general aviation community for recreational and sport flying, mainly by ultralight aircraft and other small planes. It held local importance for aviation enthusiasts but did not have the significant military or commercial history of larger airports.
There are zero prospects for reopening the airport at this location. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted to industrial use with the construction of the Panattoni Park. Any future plans for an airport in the Zgorzelec area would require securing a completely new site.
