Wysokie Mazowieckie Air Base

The primary reason for closure was economic, stemming from the systemic changes in Poland after 1989. The airstrip was almost exclusively used for agricultural aviation (crop dusting, fertilizing). With the collapse of large, state-owned collective farms (PGRs) and the restructuring of the agricultural sector, the demand for such services plummeted, making the airstrip economically unviable. The state-owned agricultural aviation enterprises that operated from such fields were either privatized or liquidated, leading to the abandonment of many local airstrips like this one.

The site is defunct and abandoned. Satellite imagery shows the faint outline of the former grass runway, but it is heavily overgrown and unmaintained. The surrounding land has been reclaimed for agricultural use (farming fields). There are no remaining aviation facilities like hangars or service buildings. The airstrip is completely unusable for any aviation purposes in its current state.

The designation 'Air Base' is a misnomer, likely from an unofficial database. This site was never a military air base. It was a 'lądowisko' (landing strip) for agricultural aviation. Its significance was purely local and economic, serving as a vital operational point for agricultural aircraft, primarily the PZL-106 Kruk and Antonov An-2. These planes provided aerial application services for the vast farmlands in the Podlaskie Voivodeship during the Polish People's Republic (PRL) era and into the early 1990s. It was part of a nationwide network of similar airstrips crucial for the centrally-planned agricultural economy of the time. The ICAO code 'PL-0066' is an unofficial identifier; official Polish ICAO airport codes begin with 'EP'.

There are no known official plans or credible prospects for reopening the airstrip. The economic rationale for its original existence is gone, and there is insufficient demand for general aviation in the immediate area to warrant the significant investment required to restore it. The land is privately owned and used for agriculture. It is highly unlikely to be reactivated as an aviation facility.
