Approximately late 2013 to early 2014. The airfield was officially removed from the Polish Civil Aviation Authority's register of landing sites after the land lease was terminated.
The closure was due to land ownership and economic reasons. The airfield operated on land leased from a private owner. The owner chose not to renew the lease with the aero club and sold the property. The new owner had different plans for the land, forcing the cessation of all aviation activities.
The site of the former airfield has been completely repurposed. The land is now occupied by a large commercial solar farm (photovoltaic power plant). All traces of the grass runway and aviation-related infrastructure have been removed to make way for the rows of solar panels.
Wejherowo Airfield was a civil, private landing site ('lÄ…dowisko') established in the mid-2000s through the initiative of local aviation enthusiasts. It served as the home base for the 'Aeroklub Ziemi Wejherowskiej' (Aero Club of the Wejherowo Land). The airfield's primary purpose was to support general aviation and sport flying in the Kashubian region. Operations consisted mainly of recreational flights, pilot training on light aircraft, and gliding. It was a significant local hub for the aviation community but never handled commercial or military traffic.
There are no prospects for reopening the airfield at its original location in Gowino due to the permanent installation of the solar farm. After the closure in 2014, the 'Aeroklub Ziemi Wejherowskiej' expressed intentions to find a new location in the vicinity, but as of now, no new airfield has been established by the club. Therefore, the prospect of reopening is nonexistent.
