The airstrip ceased regular, large-scale operations in the early 1990s. While it may have been used sporadically afterward, its primary function ended with the political and economic changes in Poland around 1989-1992. It is no longer listed in the official Polish register of civil landing sites.
The closure was due to economic reasons. The airstrip was purpose-built during the Polish People's Republic (PRL) era to serve state-owned agricultural collectives (PaĹstwowe Gospodarstwo Rolne - PGR). After the fall of communism, these large state farms were dissolved, and the system of widespread agricultural aviation collapsed, rendering hundreds of such airstrips, including this one, obsolete.
The site is abandoned for aviation use. The asphalt runway remains clearly visible but is in a state of advanced decay, with extensive cracking, faded markings, and significant vegetation growth. The associated buildings are either derelict or repurposed for non-aviation storage. A large portion of the land immediately east of the runway has been redeveloped and is now occupied by the 'Farma Fotowoltaiczna Szlichtyngowa', a large-scale solar power plant.
The facility is correctly known as Szlichtyngowa Airstrip (LÄ dowisko Szlichtyngowa). The name 'Orsk Airstrip' is likely a database error, as Orsk is a city in Russia. Its historical significance is as a typical example of infrastructure from Poland's communist era. It was part of a vast network of agricultural airstrips used for crop dusting and spraying operations to support industrialized, state-controlled farming. The primary aircraft operated from here would have been specialized agricultural planes like the Antonov An-2 and the Polish-made PZL-106 Kruk. It was never intended for passenger or significant cargo traffic.
There are no known plans or realistic prospects for reopening the airstrip. The runway and support infrastructure would require a complete and costly reconstruction. The original economic purpose for the airstrip no longer exists, and the partial redevelopment of the site for a solar farm makes a return to aviation activities highly improbable.
