The airfield was likely decommissioned and ceased official military operations in the 1990s. An exact public date is not available, but its closure aligns with the large-scale restructuring of the Polish Armed Forces and the strategic changes following the end of the Cold War.
Military downsizing and strategic redundancy. Dęblin-Podlodów was a reserve/auxiliary airfield built during the Warsaw Pact era. The post-1989 military doctrine shift and Poland's integration into NATO reduced the need for numerous dispersal airfields. The primary military aviation functions in the region were consolidated at the main, modern Dęblin Air Base (EPDE), rendering this auxiliary strip obsolete.
The site is no longer used for aviation. The former runway has been repurposed into a popular venue for motorsports. It is frequently used for organized drag racing events (such as the 'King of Poland Drag Race Cup'), drifting competitions, driver safety training courses, and general automotive gatherings. Satellite imagery shows a deteriorating but intact runway strip with clear markings of its use for racing.
Dęblin-Podlodów served as a reserve military airfield ('lotnisko zapasowe') for the main air base in Dęblin, home of the famous Polish Air Force University ('School of the Eaglets'). Its primary role during the Cold War was to act as a dispersal location. In the event of a potential conflict, aircraft from the main base would be moved to auxiliary fields like Podlodów to reduce their vulnerability to a preemptive strike. Operations were minimal, likely consisting of occasional training landings and readiness exercises. It was built with basic infrastructure: a single, long concrete runway and no permanent hangars or significant support facilities.
There are no known plans or realistic prospects for reopening Dęblin-Podlodów as an airport. Its proximity to the large, active, and fully equipped Dęblin Air Base (EPDE) makes it redundant for any military or civilian aviation purpose. Its current, well-established function as a motorsport venue makes a conversion back to an airfield highly unlikely.
