Shikarpur Airport

Military obsolescence and lack of economic viability. The airfield was built for strategic military purposes during WWII. With the end of the war and the departure of British forces, there was no longer a need for the facility, and it was not developed for civilian commercial use.

The site of the former airfield is now derelict and has been largely reclaimed by agriculture and local development. Remnants of the runway may be visible on satellite imagery but are no longer functional and are sometimes used as local roads. The land is not in use as an aviation facility.

Shikarpur Airport was a military airfield used by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) during the World War II era. It served as a satellite or forward operating base in the Sindh region of British India. Its operations were purely military, likely involving transport, reconnaissance, and serving as an emergency landing ground. It never handled scheduled commercial passenger traffic.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Shikarpur Airport. The region is served by other operational airports, such as Sukkur Airport (OPSR) and Jacobabad Airport (OPJA), making the redevelopment of the long-abandoned Shikarpur site economically unfeasible.
