The airstrip did not have a single, formal closure date but gradually fell into disuse and was effectively abandoned by the early 2010s. Operations ceased as its utility diminished over time.
The closure was primarily due to economic and infrastructural factors. The airstrip became redundant with the significant improvement of the road network in southern Palawan, which reduced the necessity for short-haul flights. Furthermore, the development and subsequent opening of the larger, more modern Bataraza Airport (RBS) in the neighboring municipality was intended to serve the entire region, making the small, poorly equipped Brooke's Point strip obsolete. Safety concerns due to increasing urban encroachment also contributed to its non-viability.
The site of the former airstrip is now defunct and has been integrated into the urban landscape of Brooke's Point. The original runway is still visible on satellite imagery but is heavily overgrown with grass and vegetation. Critically, it has been bisected by at least one public road (P. Rodriguez Sr. Street), and numerous residential homes and other buildings have been constructed directly adjacent to and on the edges of the former runway. The land is effectively being used for residential and municipal expansion, rendering it completely unusable for aviation.
When active, Brooke's Point Airstrip was a crucial community airfield. It served as a vital link for a relatively remote part of Palawan before robust road infrastructure existed. Its operations were focused on general aviation, private charter flights, and corporate aircraft. It was particularly important for the logging and mining industries in the area, facilitating the transport of personnel, high-value cargo, and emergency supplies. While it did not handle major scheduled commercial traffic, it was a lifeline for medical evacuations and provided essential connectivity for the municipality.
There are no known plans or realistic prospects for reopening the Brooke's Point Airstrip. Its role has been permanently superseded by the Bataraza Airport (RBS), which is located approximately 35 kilometers south and officially opened for commercial flights in 2022. The physical state of the old airstrip, with roads cutting across it and significant building encroachment, makes any potential reactivation technologically, financially, and logistically infeasible.
