The airport was effectively closed and ceased all aviation operations around 2017-2018. This directly coincided with the phased opening and operational launch of the new San Vicente Airport (SVP).
The primary reason for closure was replacement and obsolescence. The Philippine government invested in building the new, larger, and more modern San Vicente Airport (IATA: SVP, ICAO: RPVV) as part of a major initiative to develop the area into a premier tourist destination. The Inandeng airstrip was too small, had a short, likely unpaved or poorly maintained runway, and lacked the facilities to accommodate larger commercial aircraft (like the Airbus A320) necessary to handle the expected influx of tourists.
The site of the former Inandeng Airport is decommissioned and abandoned. Satellite imagery confirms the runway outline is still visible but is significantly overgrown with grass and other vegetation. The area is not maintained and is slowly being reclaimed by nature. There are no active operations on the site, and it is not being formally repurposed for any other use at this time.
For decades, Inandeng Airport was the sole air gateway to the remote municipality of San Vicente. It functioned as a small community airstrip, vital for connecting the town to the rest of Palawan and the Philippines. Operations were limited to general aviation, private charters, and small commercial operators using light, propeller-driven aircraft (e.g., Cessna, Britten-Norman Islander). It served local residents, government officials, and a small number of tourists and private resort owners, playing a crucial role in the local transport network before the region was targeted for large-scale tourism development.
There are zero known plans or prospects for reopening Inandeng Airport. Its function has been entirely and permanently superseded by the new San Vicente Airport (SVP), which is located just a few kilometers to the southeast and is equipped with a modern terminal and a 2,000+ meter runway capable of handling jet aircraft. Reopening the old, inferior airstrip would be redundant, economically unviable, and would likely conflict with the air traffic control patterns of the new airport.
