Approximately mid-to-late 2000s. The exact date is not officially documented, but analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was still intact in 2004 but had been significantly built over with resort facilities by 2010.
Land redevelopment for commercial purposes. The airfield was closed to facilitate the expansion of the resort it served, the Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park. The land was deemed more valuable for building new amenities like swimming pools, hotel buildings, and event spaces than for maintaining a private airstrip.
The site of the former airfield is now completely occupied by the Estancia Resort Hotel (the rebranded name for the Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park). The path of the former runway is now covered by the resort's main swimming pool complex, hotel buildings, event pavilions, and parking areas. The faint outline of the runway can still be discerned in some satellite views, but it is entirely gone and non-functional.
Kawit Airfield, also known as the 'Island Cove Airstrip', was a small, privately owned and operated airfield. Its primary purpose was to support the adjacent resort, offering a convenient fly-in option for general aviation aircraft. It primarily served the resort's owners and potentially high-net-worth guests. The airfield did not have significant military history or handle scheduled commercial flights; it was purely a private general aviation facility active from roughly the 1980s until its closure in the 2000s.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The land has been permanently and extensively redeveloped with commercial structures, making a revival impossible without demolishing a large portion of the existing resort. Additionally, the nearby Sangley Point has been developed into a major airport (Sangley Point International Airport), which serves the aviation needs of the Cavite province, rendering a small private strip like Kawit obsolete.
