Puting Kahoy Airstrip

Economic reasons and obsolescence. As a private airstrip, its operational and maintenance costs likely outweighed its utility. Improved road infrastructure in Batangas province reduced the necessity for private air travel to the location. There is no evidence of closure due to a specific accident, military conversion, or regulatory action.

The airport is abandoned and completely defunct. The runway is still clearly visible in satellite imagery but is heavily overgrown with grass, shrubs, and other vegetation, making it unusable for any aviation purposes. The land is currently idle, with no signs of redevelopment or new construction on the former runway itself.

Puting Kahoy Airstrip was a privately owned general aviation facility. It primarily served the interests of the Zobel de Ayala family, who own significant landholdings in the region, including the nearby Calatagan and Lian developments. The airstrip facilitated private and corporate travel for the family and their associates. It also likely supported high-end tourism by providing direct air access for guests visiting exclusive resorts in the Matabungkay and Punta Baluarte areas. It featured a single unpaved runway, approximately 850 meters (2,789 feet) in length, and never handled scheduled commercial airline services.

There are no known or published plans to rehabilitate or reopen the Puting Kahoy Airstrip. Given its private history and the current development focus on residential and resort real estate in the area, the prospect of it returning to service as an airport is highly unlikely.
