Approximately 2019-2020. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was intact through 2018, but by late 2019 and into 2020, construction began to convert the site.
Economic and land-use conversion. The airstrip was decommissioned to allow its developer, Ayala Land, to build the Anvaya Cove Solar Farm on the site. This decision was likely driven by the low utilization of the private airstrip compared to the strategic and economic benefits of a renewable energy project.
The site has been completely repurposed. The entire length of the former runway is now occupied by the Anvaya Cove Solar Farm, a grid of solar panels that generates power for the resort and surrounding community. The airport infrastructure has been entirely removed.
The facility was not a public domestic airport but a private airstrip, more commonly known as the Anvaya Cove Airstrip. It was constructed around 2008-2010 as an exclusive amenity for the Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club, a high-end residential and leisure development. Its purpose was to handle general aviation traffic, allowing residents and guests to arrive via small, private aircraft, enhancing the exclusivity and accessibility of the remote luxury resort.
None. The prospect of reopening is virtually zero as the land has been permanently redeveloped with a large-scale, fixed infrastructure (the solar farm). Re-establishing an airport would require the complete removal of the solar facility, which is highly improbable.
