🇮🇶 Al Iskandariyah Airport

Al Iskandariyah Airport (ORAI), located in Al Iskandariyah, Babil Governorate, Iraq, is a former Iraqi Air Force base that is now abandoned.

• Type of Facility: It was historically one of eight major operating bases for the Iraqi Air Force in 1991. The facility is currently abandoned, with many support structures remaining in a deteriorating state.
• Location and Runway Information: The airport is situated in Al Iskandariyah, Iraq. It features a concrete runway, with the longest primary runway measuring approximately 10,249 by 98 feet (14/32). The concrete runway and a series of taxiways are still visible.
• Known Uses and Historical Significance: Al Iskandariyah Airport was attacked during Operation Desert Storm and later seized by U.S. forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, subsequently becoming Forward Operating Base Chosin. The site also held the al-Quds General Company for Mechanical Industries, a significant military industrial factory. Notably, during the late 1980s, it was a key location for Iraq's nuclear weapons program, with the Al Qaqaa State Establishment, responsible for developing non-nuclear components, situated there.
