🇵🇰 Rawalakot Airport

Rawalakot Airport (IATA: RAZ, ICAO: OPRT) is a small public airport situated in Rawalakot, the administrative headquarters of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.

Type of Facility and Operations: The airport features a single paved runway, designated 01/19, which measures approximately 915 meters (3,002 ft) in length. It is surrounded by forested terrain, which limits its expansion potential.

Notable Features or History: Located at an elevation of 1,670 meters (5,479 ft) above mean sea level, Rawalakot Airport previously hosted commercial flights by Pakistan International Airlines between Rawalakot and Islamabad. Regular commercial operations ceased in October 2005, primarily due to Pakistan International Airlines' inability to sustain viable flights. Following the devastating Kashmir earthquake in 2005, the airport was temporarily utilized for humanitarian aid deliveries.

Current Status: Currently, Rawalakot Airport is non-operational and does not serve any scheduled airline traffic. While there have been periodic government announcements and proposals for infrastructure upgrades, even as recently as 2019, the airport has not resumed commercial services. For air travel, individuals typically use Islamabad International Airport and continue to Rawalakot by road.
