Sohar Airport (IATA: OHS, ICAO: OOSH) is a modern international airport serving the city of Sohar and the economically vital Al Batinah North Governorate of Oman. It functions as a strategic gateway for business and leisure travelers, complementing the nearby Sohar Port and Freezone by providing crucial air connectivity. The airport plays a significant role in diversifying Oman’s aviation infrastructure, serving as an alternative to Muscat International Airport for the northern region and as an important hub for air cargo operations.

Opened for commercial traffic in November 2014, Sohar Airport was developed to support the rapid industrial and commercial growth in the region. Its establishment was part of a national strategy to enhance logistics and tourism across the Sultanate. The airport is located approximately 13 kilometers southwest of Sohar’s city center. Access is straightforward via the road network, with travelers typically reaching the terminal by private vehicle or taxi. The journey from central Sohar usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Operations at Sohar Airport include a schedule of domestic and international passenger flights, primarily connecting to regional destinations in the Middle East and South Asia. Airlines such as Air Arabia and SalamAir have operated services from the airport. Passenger traffic is modest compared to larger hubs, reflecting its role as a focused regional facility. The airport features a single, contemporary passenger terminal designed to handle up to 500,000 passengers annually. The terminal is clean and efficient, equipped with essential facilities to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Inside the terminal, travelers will find check-in counters, a comfortable departure lounge, baggage handling services, and immigration and customs facilities. Amenities are functional and include a small cafe for refreshments, prayer rooms, and car rental desks operated by local and international companies. Due to the airport's compact size, check-in and security procedures are typically swift. For travelers, it is advisable to arrive 90 minutes to two hours before an international departure. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal for transport to the city and surrounding areas. As flight schedules can be infrequent, passengers should always confirm their flight status directly with their airline ahead of travel.
