The helideck ceased official operations in October 2004, coinciding with the shutdown of gas production from the Frigg field. The platform structure itself, including the helideck, was physically removed from the site in 2008.
Economic reasons. The closure was a direct result of the depletion of the Frigg gas field. After nearly 30 years of production, the field was no longer economically viable, leading to a complete cessation of operations and the full decommissioning and removal of all associated platforms.
The site is now open sea. The Frigg Quarters Platform, a steel jacket structure, was completely removed as part of the massive Frigg Cessation Project, one of the largest offshore decommissioning projects undertaken at the time. The topside was lifted in 2008 and transported ashore for recycling. The seabed at the platform's former location has been cleared and returned to its natural state.
The Frigg QP (Quarters Platform) helideck was a vital piece of infrastructure for one of the North Sea's most significant gas fields. As the primary accommodation platform for the Frigg field complex, its helideck was a critical transportation link. It handled a high volume of helicopter traffic, primarily for crew changes connecting the offshore installation with onshore bases like Stavanger Airport, Sola (SVG) in Norway. The helideck was essential for the safe and continuous manning of the facility, transport of light cargo, and crucial for emergency and medical evacuation (medevac) services, supporting thousands of workers throughout the field's operational life from 1977 to 2004.
None. The physical platform and its helideck have been completely dismantled and no longer exist. The underlying gas reservoir is depleted, and there are no plans to build any new structures at this specific location. The ICAO identifier NO-0110 is permanently defunct.
