Pointe Vele Airport (IATA: FUT, ICAO: NLWF) is the sole airport serving the island of Futuna, a volcanic island within the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna. It provides an essential lifeline, connecting the remote island's population to the territory's administrative center on Wallis Island and, by extension, to the outside world. The airport is a critical piece of infrastructure for local transport, medical evacuations, and the island's limited tourism sector.

Opened to provide a reliable alternative to challenging sea travel, the airport's significance lies in its ability to ensure consistent connectivity. It is located on the eastern tip of the island, known as Pointe Vele, approximately 10 kilometers from Leava, the island's main village. Due to the lack of public transportation on Futuna, travelers typically reach the airport via pre-arranged private transfers, often organized through their accommodation, or by local taxi services. The scenic drive from the villages to the airport follows the coastal road, offering views of the island's coastline.

Airport operations are exclusively domestic. There are no direct international flights to or from Futuna. The sole scheduled route is a short flight to Hihifo Airport (WLS) on Wallis Island, operated by the region's carrier, Aircalin. These flights are conducted using small, robust turboprop aircraft, such as the DHC-6 Twin Otter, which are well-suited for the short runway and local weather conditions. Passenger volume is modest, primarily consisting of local residents, government officials, and a small number of visitors.

The facilities at Pointe Vele Airport are simple and functional, reflecting its small size and operational scope. The airport consists of a single, small terminal building with a basic check-in counter and a waiting area. Amenities for travelers are very limited; there are no restaurants, cafes, retail shops, or passenger lounges. Restrooms are available, but visitors should not expect comprehensive services.

For travelers, it is advisable to arrive approximately 60 to 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure. As ground transportation is not readily available upon arrival, pre-booking a transfer is highly recommended. Anyone connecting to or from an international flight via Wallis should allow ample time between flights, as schedules can be subject to change due to weather. It is also practical for travelers to bring their own water and snacks, given the absence of food and beverage services at the terminal.
