🇳🇬 Kainji Air Base

Kainji Air Base (NG-0002) is a military air base of the Nigerian Air Force, located in New Bussa, Niger State, Nigeria. It is not a private or commercial airport with scheduled service.

• Location and Runway: The air base is situated at approximately 9.89530° latitude and 4.48420° longitude, with an elevation of 689 ft (210 m) above sea level. It features one runway designated 4/22. While it lacks an ICAO code, NG-0002 serves as its reference.
• Uses and Significance: Kainji Air Base serves as a strategic unit for the Nigerian Air Force, primarily for the training of combat pilots and conducting air combat operations. It is crucial for national security, supporting counter-insurgency missions against violent extremist organizations like ISIS-West Africa and Boko Haram, utilizing aircraft such as Alpha Jets and A-29 Super Tucanos. The base has undergone significant improvements, including enhanced security, munitions storage, aircraft hangars, aprons, and training facilities, supported by a $38 million investment from the United States. These upgrades facilitate the operation and maintenance of the A-29 Super Tucano wing, a program that represents the largest U.S. foreign military sale to a country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Airfield lighting, including runway and taxiway lights, was installed in phases by Avlite Systems.
