Basaroot Landing Site

No official reason for the closure is documented. Given its nature as a remote, private landing site, it was most likely closed due to economic reasons or abandonment. This could include a change in land ownership, the cessation of the specific business it supported (such as a farm, private lodge, or prospecting operation), or simply a lack of use and subsequent failure to maintain the runway.

The Basaroot Landing Site is abandoned and defunct. Current satellite imagery shows the former runway is no longer maintained, is heavily overgrown with sparse desert vegetation, and is barely distinguishable from the surrounding arid landscape. The site has reverted to natural rangeland and is completely unusable for any aviation purposes.

The site has no known major historical significance. It was a private, unpaved dirt airstrip, characteristic of many found on remote properties throughout Namibia. Its purpose was strictly utilitarian and local, serving the private aviation needs of the property it was on. Operations would have been infrequent, handling light, single- or twin-engine propeller aircraft (like Cessna, Piper, or similar bush planes) for transporting the property owner, staff, guests, or light cargo. The identifier 'NA-0007' is a non-standard, country-specific code used in some databases and is not an official ICAO airport designator, which for Namibia begins with the letters 'FY'.

There are no known or published plans to reopen the airstrip. As a private facility with no strategic importance, any prospect of reopening would be entirely at the discretion of the current or a future landowner who requires a private airstrip and is willing to invest the significant resources needed to clear, grade, and potentially certify the site for use.
