🇧🇸 Big Whale Cay Airport

Big Whale Cay Airport (MYBW) is a small civil airport located on Big Whale Cay, an island within the Berry Islands chain of The Bahamas. Although situated on a privately owned island, it is considered a public-use airport with private ownership and requires strict prior permission (PPR) for all landings.

The airport features a single asphalt runway (06/24) that is 4,000 feet (1,219 meters) long and 60 feet (18 meters) wide, designed for visual flight rules (VFR) operations only, and does not have runway lighting or fuel services. It primarily serves general aviation, private jets, and charter flights, acting as a crucial logistical hub for the private island to transport supplies, staff, and equipment. Historically, Big Whale Cay itself gained prominence through its development by Marion Barbara "Joe" Carstairs in the early 20th century, and the airstrip was likely part of the infrastructure she established on the then-privately owned island.
