Circa 2009-2010. The airport was operational in satellite imagery from the mid-2000s, but construction on the new military facility that replaced it began around this time, with the facility being officially inaugurated in February 2011.
Military Conversion. The land was expropriated by the Mexican federal government for the construction of a permanent military base as part of a national security strategy to increase army presence in the state of Chihuahua. The airport was demolished to build the headquarters for the Mexican Army's 66th Infantry Battalion.
The site of the former airport is now the permanent military base and headquarters of the Mexican Army's 66th Infantry Battalion (Cuartel del 66/o. BatallĂłn de InfanterĂa). The runway, hangars, and all associated airport infrastructure have been completely removed and replaced with barracks, administrative buildings, vehicle depots, parade grounds, and other military facilities. The base is an active and strategic installation for the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).
Las Delicias Airport was a small, local aerodrome that primarily served the general aviation needs of the city of Delicias and its surrounding agricultural region. Its operations included:
- **General Aviation:** Handling private aircraft for local business owners, ranchers, and pilots.
- **Agricultural Aviation:** Supporting the region's significant agricultural industry with crop-dusting and spraying services.
- **Air Taxi and Charter:** Providing limited on-demand air taxi services to nearby cities and remote locations.
It was not a commercial airport with scheduled passenger flights (hence the lack of an IATA code) but was a vital piece of infrastructure for the local economy and private transport.
Effectively zero. The land has been permanently and completely repurposed for a critical national security function. There is no remaining infrastructure of the original airport, and the site is occupied by an active military battalion. Any future airport to serve Delicias would need to be constructed at an entirely new location.
