The exact date of formal closure is not documented in public records. However, analysis of historical satellite imagery indicates the airstrip fell into disuse and was gradually reclaimed by agriculture between approximately 2010 and 2015. By 2015, the land was being actively farmed over, indicating it was no longer operational.
The closure was likely due to a combination of economic factors and changes in land use. As a small, private airstrip, its operational costs may have become prohibitive, or its utility may have diminished for its owners. The surrounding area has seen significant expansion of large-scale, irrigated agriculture, and the land occupied by the airstrip was evidently converted to farmland, which was a more economically valuable use for the property. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to an accident, military conversion, or regulatory action.
The site of the former airport is now completely converted to agricultural land. The faint, compacted outline of the northwest/southeast oriented runway is still visible in satellite imagery, but the ground itself has been plowed and is used for crop cultivation, fully integrated with the surrounding fields. There are no remaining airport structures such as hangars, terminals, or markers.
Hacienda Los Olivos Airport was a private aerodrome (aeropista). Its name suggests it was built to serve the 'Hacienda Los Olivos' estate. Its primary operations would have been related to general aviation for the private use of the hacienda's owners and their associates. This could have included personal transportation, business travel, and potentially agricultural aviation (crop dusting) for the vast farmlands in the Comarca Lagunera region. It consisted of a single unpaved/dirt runway and likely had minimal infrastructure. It held no known significance for commercial or military aviation.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been fully repurposed for agriculture, and its close proximity to the large, full-service Torreón International Airport (MMTC), located just a few kilometers to the west, makes the redevelopment of a small private airstrip at this location economically unviable and unnecessary.
