San Antonio (Las Guásimas) Airport

Military Conversion. The primary reason for its closure to public/civilian use was its acquisition and redevelopment by the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina - SEMAR). The site was strategically chosen to be converted into the Guaymas Naval Air Station (Estación Aeronaval de Guaymas). The existence of the nearby and better-equipped General José María Yáñez International Airport (MMGM / GYM) made this smaller airfield redundant for civilian aviation and an ideal candidate for military repurposing.

The site is now an active military base. It is the location of the 'Estación Aeronaval de Guaymas' (Guaymas Naval Air Station), operated by the Mexican Navy. Satellite imagery clearly shows that the original runway is still partially visible but has been integrated into the base's layout. The area is now developed with military hangars, barracks, administrative buildings, and aprons for naval aircraft, primarily helicopters and surveillance planes. The site is a restricted-access military installation and is not open to the public.

San Antonio (Las Guásimas) Airport served primarily as a general aviation airfield. Its operations were focused on private aircraft, small charter services, pilot training, and potentially agricultural aviation (crop dusting) for the surrounding region. It was not a major commercial airport and did not have scheduled passenger services, hence the lack of an IATA code. Its significance was local, providing essential air access and support for the Guaymas area before the main international airport absorbed most aviation activities. The airfield featured a single asphalt runway, approximately 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) in length.

Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport for civilian or public use. As an active and important naval air station for the Mexican Navy's Pacific fleet operations, its strategic military role precludes any possibility of it reverting to a civilian airfield. All civilian and commercial aviation for the Guaymas area is handled by the General José María Yáñez International Airport (MMGM).
