The airport gradually fell into disuse during the mid-to-late 2000s. Satellite imagery shows the runway was still distinct in the early 2000s but became progressively less maintained over the following decade. The site was permanently repurposed for industrial use starting around 2017-2018, marking its definitive closure.
Economic redundancy and subsequent land redevelopment. Las Flores was a small, basic airfield that was made obsolete by the nearby Ciudad Acuña International Airport (IATA: ACN, ICAO: MMCC), which offers superior facilities including a paved runway, instrument approaches, and customs services. The strategic location of the land, adjacent to the growing Parque Industrial Amistad, made it valuable for industrial expansion.
The site is no longer recognizable as an airport and has been fully integrated into an industrial zone. A large industrial building and associated parking lot have been constructed over the northern half of the former runway. The southern half is used as an open-air industrial storage and staging area. The land is immediately surrounded by the Parque Industrial Amistad and the large Villanueva Solar Park.
Las Flores Airport was a small general aviation airfield with an unpaved runway. It primarily served private, business, and likely agricultural aviation needs for the region. Before the full development and consolidation of services at the main international airport, Las Flores would have supported business travel related to the local maquiladora (manufacturing) industry, taking advantage of its proximity to the US-Mexico border. It did not handle scheduled commercial passenger flights.
None. The airport is permanently closed. The land has been irreversibly redeveloped with permanent industrial structures, and the region's aviation needs are fully met by the modern Ciudad Acuña International Airport (MMCC).
