Del Pacifico Airport

The closure was likely the result of several converging factors:
1. **Economic Viability:** As a small, private airstrip, it probably faced challenges in meeting operational costs and modern regulatory standards.
2. **Security Concerns:** During the 2000s and 2010s, the Mexican government, in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, closed numerous private and unsupervised airstrips in states like Sinaloa to prevent their use by cartels.
3. **Redundancy:** The establishment and operation of a newer, better-equipped facility, the Aeródromo de Guasave (ICAO: MM24), rendered this older airstrip obsolete for the region's general and agricultural aviation needs.

The airport is permanently closed and abandoned. High-resolution satellite imagery confirms its status, showing large white 'X' markings painted on the runway, which is the universal symbol indicating a runway is unfit for use and permanently closed to all air traffic. The single paved runway is still visible but is in a state of significant decay. The site appears to be used unofficially for local activities such as drag racing or driver training, as evidenced by numerous tire marks on the runway surface. The few buildings on the site, likely former hangars or offices, appear derelict.

Del Pacifico Airport was a local general aviation and agricultural airfield. Its primary importance was to the regional economy, specifically supporting the vast agricultural industry of Guasave, which is often called 'the agricultural heart of Mexico.' Operations consisted almost exclusively of agricultural aircraft (crop dusters) and light aircraft used for private and business transport. The airport never had scheduled commercial passenger or cargo services, which were handled by larger airports in nearby Los Mochis (MMLM) and Culiacán (MMCL).

There are no known plans or realistic prospects for reopening Del Pacifico Airport. The existence of the newer and fully operational Aeródromo de Guasave (MM24) serves the current needs of the community. Furthermore, any long-term political or business discussions about expanding air service to Guasave have focused on the potential construction of an entirely new, larger 'Aeropuerto Nacional de Guasave,' not the costly refurbishment of this small, defunct, and outdated facility.
