Early to mid-2000s (approximately 2003-2005). Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the airfield was intact and operational in 2002, but by 2005, significant residential road construction and development were underway directly on the runway and surrounding land.
Urban encroachment and economic factors. The airport was located on the eastern edge of Hermosillo, a city undergoing rapid expansion. The land became significantly more valuable for real estate development than for use as a private airfield. The owners likely sold or redeveloped the property for the more profitable purpose of residential housing.
The site has been completely redeveloped. It is now occupied by the residential neighborhoods of 'La Verbena' and 'Corceles'. The former north-south runway's exact path has been paved over and is now primarily occupied by two major local roads: Boulevard Verbena and Boulevard Calesa. The area where hangars once stood at the north end of the strip is now a small commercial plaza and housing. No visible remnants of the airport infrastructure exist today, aside from the linear alignment of the main streets.
Pavlovich Aviation Airport was a private general aviation airfield. Given the name, it was almost certainly owned and operated by the prominent Pavlovich family, who have significant business interests in agriculture and other industries in the state of Sonora. The airport would have served their private and business aircraft, and potentially other local general aviation activities such as flight training or agricultural aviation (crop dusting), which is common in the region. It was never a public or commercial airport and its operations were entirely separate from Hermosillo's main international airport (MMHO).
None. The land has been permanently and densely repurposed for residential and commercial use. A reopening of the airport at this location is physically, legally, and economically impossible.
