Circa mid-to-late 2000s. An exact official closure date is not available, but aviation communities and pilot reports from the early 2010s consistently refer to it as closed. Satellite imagery from that period shows increasing encroachment from development, suggesting a gradual phasing out of operations.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The airstrip was situated on prime coastal real estate belonging to the Estero Beach Hotel & Resort. The land became more valuable for resort expansion and residential development than for serving a small number of private aircraft. The expansion of the resort, including its RV park and new buildings, directly led to the closure as structures were built over the former runway.
The site is permanently closed and has been partially redeveloped. The physical runway is no longer usable. Satellite imagery shows that the southern half of the former airstrip is now occupied by resort buildings, access roads, and residential structures. The remaining northern portion is overgrown and appears to be used for informal parking and storage. The airstrip is completely non-operational and its outline is barely visible.
Bahía Soledad Airstrip was a private airfield that primarily served as a convenient fly-in destination for guests of the Estero Beach Hotel & Resort. Its main operation was handling general aviation traffic, particularly from private pilots flying from the United States (California and Arizona) for tourism, fishing, and recreation. It was a notable stop for the 'Baja Bush Pilots' community, allowing visitors to bypass the main Ensenada International Airport (MMES) and land directly at their vacation spot.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airstrip. The land has been permanently repurposed with fixed structures built directly on the former runway alignment, making any future aviation use physically impossible.
