Official airport taxis are available 24/7. Fares are fixed based on destination zones and must be pre-paid at authorized kiosks inside the arrivals hall. This is a direct, private option but generally the most expensive. Rideshare services like Uber have historically faced operational challenges and are not a reliable option for airport pickups.
Major international and local car rental companies (including Hertz, Avis, Europcar, and Sixt) have desks in the arrivals area of all terminals. It is highly recommended to book your vehicle in advance online for better rates. After completing paperwork at the desk, a company shuttle will transport you to their off-site lot to collect your car. Be aware that mandatory Mexican liability insurance is required and often an additional cost to the initial quote.
The most common and affordable public transit is the ADO bus service. These comfortable, air-conditioned coaches run frequently from all terminals to downtown Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. From the downtown Cancún bus terminal, you can transfer to local city buses (e.g., R-1 or R-2) to reach the Hotel Zone. Shared shuttle vans are also a popular option, offering door-to-door service to hotels at a lower cost than a private taxi.
Cheap flights, expensive shops. It's a nice airport though each terminal is quite small, and the new T4 didn't have wifi installed when we transited there at the end of March. Be prepared for heat if you go outside, and cold A/C if you remain inside. Airside shopping in T4 is fair but food is overpriced.
Question: Did Cancun have two runways or did they build a new one?
