Official, authorized airport taxis are available 24/7 just outside the arrivals terminal. Fares to key destinations like Comayagua and the former airport in Tegucigalpa are generally based on a fixed-rate system. It is strongly recommended to use the official taxi stand to ensure safety and fair pricing, confirming the cost before your trip begins.
Several major car rental companies, including Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Enterprise, have service counters located within the airport's arrivals hall. It is highly advisable to book a vehicle in advance online for better rates and to guarantee availability. The car pickup and drop-off lots are situated a short walk from the terminal building.
Direct public transit is primarily handled by private shuttle bus companies. Services like Palmerola Connect and Hedman Alas offer scheduled, comfortable coach transportation connecting the airport directly with major cities, most notably Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. For a more local and economical option, public buses ('colectivos') can be flagged down on the main CA-5 highway, which is a short walk from the terminal.
The Honduras government wants to convert this base to be Tegucigalpa's new international airport (it already served that role temporarily earlier in 2008), while Toncontín (TGU) will server only smaller aircraft and domestic flights.
