San Isidro Air Base (ICAO: MDSI) is a military airport located 25 km east of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It became operational on March 23, 1953, and was originally named Base Aérea Trujillo until 1961. The Dominican Air Force operates the base, and most of its units, aircraft, and helicopters are stationed there.
The base features a single asphalt runway, 03/21, which is 2,134 meters (7,000 feet) long. The runway dimensions are also reported as 2,165 x 60 meters (7,103 x 197 feet) with a hard surface. The elevation of the airport is 34 meters (112 feet) above mean sea level. Navigation aids include the San Isidro VOR/DME (SIS) located on the field, and the Punta Caucedo VOR/DME (CDO) 6.8 nautical miles to the west.
San Isidro Air Base has also been used as a venue for automobile racing events.
Currently, the base is undergoing renovation and modernization, including the installation of a new control tower, an Air Operations Surveillance Control Center, and a Radio Aid to Air Navigation system. This modernization project aims to enable its eventual use as an alternate terminal for civil aviation in emergency situations, adhering to ICAO regulations. The new control tower is designed to withstand Category 5 hurricane winds and is expected to be delivered in August.
