LV-8048 in 20 seconds
Gulbene Airfield serves Gulbene, LV.

Gulbene Airfield (LV-8048), also known as Alt Schwanenburg I, was established in 1924 and became one of the largest airfields in Latvia by the mid-1930s. It served as a military airfield, hosting the Latvian Air Force's 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron and the 7th Sigulda Infantry Regiment. During World War II, it was used by Soviet and German forces, and after the war, it resumed Soviet Air Force operations.

The airfield closed in 1993 when Soviet Army Unit No. 75568 relocated due to electromagnetic emissions exceeding permissible levels for civilian populations. Today, the site is abandoned, though two of the three radar hills from the Soviet era still remain. Plans for redevelopment have included children's recreation and housing, and an open-air stage that was built in 1994 was demolished in 2015.
