Portimão Airport (PRM) is a small aerodrome that does not service commercial passenger flights. The main airport for the region is Faro Airport (FAO), located about 70 km away. At Faro Airport, taxis are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. The journey to Portimão takes approximately 45-60 minutes. Pre-booked private transfer services are also a popular and often more cost-effective option.
As Portimão Airport does not have commercial flights, car rentals are typically picked up at Faro Airport (FAO). Faro Airport hosts numerous international and local car rental agencies (e.g., Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar, Goldcar) with desks in the arrivals hall. It is highly recommended to book in advance, especially during peak season. The drive to Portimão is straightforward via the A22 motorway.
There is no direct public transit from the small Portimão Aerodrome. To reach Portimão via public transport, you must travel from Faro Airport (FAO). This is a two-step process: 1) Take a local bus (Próximo bus line 16) or a short taxi ride from Faro Airport to the main bus or train station in Faro city. 2) From Faro's central terminals, you can take either an intercity bus (e.g., VAMUS, Flixbus) or a regional train (Comboios de Portugal) to Portimão. This is the most economical option but also the most time-consuming.
It is served by the airline AeroVip (7Air) in its line Bragança-Vila Real-Viseu-Cascais-Portimão.
The major GA airport for the southern Portuguese region of Algarve, Portimão airfield has its own AirClub with parachuting activities offered, as well as being served by AeroVip (7Air) with flights to Cascais (LPCS).
