Skyros Island National Airport (IATA: SKU, ICAO: LGSY) is the sole airport serving the Greek island of Skyros, functioning as a vital link for tourism and local transportation. Located on a flat plain in the northern, more arid part of the island, it provides a crucial alternative to the longer sea ferry routes from the mainland. The airport shares its facilities with the Hellenic Air Force, operating as a dual-use civil and military airfield, which gives it a strategic significance beyond its role in public travel. This military presence is noticeable to visitors and is an integral part of the airport's identity.

Opened for public use in 1984, the airport has since been a key component of the island's infrastructure. Its primary function is to connect Skyros with major Greek cities, facilitating access for both residents and tourists. The airport is situated approximately 17 kilometers north of the island's main town, Skyros (Chora). The journey by road typically takes 20 to 25 minutes. Travelers can access the town and other parts of the island via taxi or pre-booked rental cars, which have desks inside the small terminal. A limited public bus service may operate, but schedules often align strictly with flight arrivals and departures.

Operations at Skyros Airport are predominantly domestic and highly seasonal. Scheduled flights connect the island with Athens and Thessaloniki, operated by carriers such as Olympic Air (an Aegean Airlines subsidiary) and Sky Express. The frequency of these flights increases substantially during the summer tourist season, from May to September. During this peak period, occasional international charter flights may also serve the airport. As a small regional facility, it handled approximately 24,000 passengers in 2023.

The airport's facilities are basic, housed within a single, compact terminal building. Inside, travelers will find check-in counters, a small departures lounge, and a simple café or snack bar for light refreshments. Amenities are limited, so visitors should not expect extensive retail or dining options. For travelers, it is advisable to arrive 60 to 90 minutes before a domestic departure. Pre-booking transportation, especially rental cars, is strongly recommended, particularly during the busy summer months, as on-arrival availability can be scarce. Due to the airport's small size, the process from check-in to boarding is generally straightforward and efficient.
